Don’t worry, every resident event idea in this post was created with social distancing in mind. We’ve had to get creative and think outside the box in 2020, but that won’t stop us from having fun and showing our residents that we appreciate them!
DIY CRAFTING IDEAS
Below are a couple of DIY crafts for fall to inspire you, but if these don’t do it for you, no hard feelings. The concept can be applied to any project you choose. Simply provide your residents with the materials and instructions to an inexpensive craft of your choosing and then send them home to create! It’s a simple and fun way to show resident appreciation that also celebrates autumn!
Toilet Paper Pumpkins
Inexpensive, and completely fitting for a 2020 fall themed decoration! Remember when the whole world was hoarding toilet paper and stores were sold out? Bring that humorous memory to your residents while giving them an easy DIY crafting project that actually looks great! The materials to make one toilet paper pumpkin cost as little as $3. If you are looking for an affordable way to give back to your residents this fall, bundle up the materials and place them in a gift bag to offer residents in the lobby as a gift!

Pine Cone Garland
Pine cones bring a classic fall vibe into the home. So why not paint them pretty and string them up! It’s simple, but honestly looks really great. Send an email and a flyer out to your residents inviting them to stop by all week to pick up the supplies for this fall DIY craft. It would be cute to set up a station at a long table – a sheet of instructions, 13 pine cones, 13 eye hooks, jute twine, a foam brush, and a small bottle of paint (offer different colors they can choose from). Have them go down the line picking up everything they need to take home and DIY this fun fall craft.
DECORATING CONTEST
As your residents are decorating their homes for the fall season, entice them with the chance to win prizes for decorating their patios, balconies or front doors! All you’ll need is a prize or multiple prizes, a fun flyer and a cute email to invite them to join! For an added appeal, decorate a door in the leasing office and put a sign on it to draw attention to the contest! Make it more interesting and offer awards to go along with different prize levels, such as Best Decorated, Most Creative, Funniest, etc.

COOKING CLASS
Hire a chef or food blogger to host a virtual cooking class on Facebook Live or ZOOM to teach your residents a fun new fall-inspired recipe! An hour or two of their time and the expense of grocery for their cooking demo won’t break the bank and offers a fun event for your residents this fall. For an added touch, create recipe cards to go with an invitation to the event and drop them in each mailbox. Maybe this Butternut Squash Ravioli with Seared Chicken for a little drool-worthy inspiration!
